19055 Schwerin

At the heart of the city centre lies the “Pfaffenteich”. All around the lake, which was artificially created as a mill pond in the 13th century, there are various elegant buildings like that of court architect Demmler’s home or the “Küken” house. The Arsenal stands out as the most interesting one. Demmler had it constructed as the grand duke’s armoury in 1837. It is an example of the English Tudor style and today houses the Ministry of the Interior of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The lime-tree promenade along the shores of the “Pfaffenteich” and its steps at the south shore invite you to take a walk or have a rest. Many interesting events like the “Altstadtfest” (Old Town’s Festival) or the big Dragon Boat Race take place there all year round. And for a tour of the lake, the little “Petermännchen” ferry can take you to three different piers.
