Over the course of history, the 300 years old grinding mill at the edge of the palace gardens fulfilled several different functions: As the ducal dye mill, groat mill and as a wool spinning mill. Most of the time however, it used to be the ducal stone grindery, where huge granite stones were cut and polished for the building of ducal houses. Today a stone cutter demonstrates the art of cutting and polishing granite with 18th century methods to interested visitors. The grinding mill houses an exhibition of the history of the water mill and a highly interesting collection of minerals. The romantic mill garden is also open to visitors, where they can see natural stones, historic products of the art of stone cutting and a long stone saw, which dates from the early age of motorised machines.
