The Palace Church is situated at the North side of the Palace and easy to recognize by its bell tower and choir.
In 1560 the renewal of the Palace Church was initiated by order of duke Johann Albrecht I. But even before that time the Palace was always provided with service rooms. Today's chapel was built similarly to the chapel of Hartenfels Palace in Torgau, the first chapel that was especially designed for Lutheran services.
The Palace Church is a rectangular room surrounded by single-storey galleries. Friedrich Franz II. added neo-Gothic choir with magnificent windows and a gallery on the South side. An Arc de Triomphe connects the choir with the old chapel room.
Opposite the choir there is the royal gallery and the organ. The roof is set up as a reticulated vault that is decorated with golden stars on blue background - in accordance with the trend of that time.
In 1563 the Palace Church was dedicated the first reformatory church of Mecklenburg. After that it remains nearly unchanged until today.
