Enjoy Schwerin’s lakes and unspoilt nature – still an insider’s tip, away from the stress and bustle of mass tourism. The Schweriner See covers an area of 63 km2, has many little coves and is connected to several other lakes and rivers. Along its shores you are bound to encounter fishermen and even castle owners.
The charming outdoor museum “Freilichtmuseum Schwerin-Mueß” lies in the centre of a restored 18th-century village at the southern shore of the Schweriner See. You will recognise it by the scent of sweet herbs, the sound of bleating sheep and the rhythmic hammering coming from the village’s old blacksmith’s shop. The ducal castle “Schloss Wiligrad”, which is surrounded by fairytale gardens, is situated in the nearby Lübstorf. The hill fort 'Michelenburg' in the village Dorf Mecklenburg tells of Schwerin’s Slavonic roots and ancient oak trees in Raben-Steinfeld are part of the large castle park.
